Methodology

Useful estimates start with visible assumptions.

Our calculators are designed for planning, not false precision. We expose the variables that materially change a result and explain the underlying math.

1. Geometry first

Most material tools begin with measurable geometry: length, width, height, depth, area or volume. Unit conversions are performed explicitly before applying product coverage.

2. Product values remain editable

Coverage per gallon, box coverage, bag yield, density and package size can differ by manufacturer. Where those values matter, the tool lets you replace the default with the number printed on your product or supplier specification.

3. Waste is a planning variable

Waste accounts for cuts, breakage, defects and future repairs. We use an editable percentage instead of pretending one allowance fits every project.

4. Purchase quantities are rounded deliberately

Materials sold in full boxes, bags, rolls or sheets are rounded up. Intermediate mathematical values may be shown with decimals for transparency.

5. Limits are stated

Simple calculators cannot model every field condition. Complex geometry, structural design, building code, HVAC load design, electrical work and other regulated work should be verified by a qualified professional.

Corrections

If we identify a formula or implementation error, we correct the calculator and update its modified date. We prefer an explainable correction over silently changing assumptions.
