Start here

Pick the problem that is costing you the most attention.

Do not start with the biggest room. Start with the symptom or friction point that keeps returning.

The 10-minute rule

For cleaning and organization, choose a bounded task that creates function in ten minutes. Stop when the timer ends or continue only if the next step is obvious. For odors, moisture or appliance symptoms, use those ten minutes to observe and isolate—not to mix products or dismantle equipment.

One change at a time

If you clean the drain, change detergent, add fragrance and run a dehumidifier at the same time, you may improve the symptom without learning the source. BetterHomeHabits guides intentionally sequence changes so the result teaches you something.
