Mulch cubic yards by area and depth
Mulch needs change rapidly with depth. This table gives transparent geometric volumes before compaction or supplier-specific recommendations.

To estimate mulch in cubic yards, multiply area in square feet by depth in feet, then divide by 27. For example, 500 square feet at 3 inches deep is about 4.63 cubic yards before any extra allowance.
